# Ossoff Holds 8-Point Lead in Tight Georgia Senate Race, Denies 2028 Presidential Run

Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) leads Republican Congressman Mike Collins by 8 points, 48% to 40%, among likely Georgia voters in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) poll released October 21, 2026, as the November 3 general election approaches [7][8][10]. This lead falls outside the poll's 3.1 percentage-point margin of error [7].

This re-election battle is closely watched nationally because Senator Ossoff is the only Democratic senator seeking re-election in a state that supported former President Donald Trump in 2024 [4][5]. The outcome could influence the balance of power in the Senate.

## What the Records Show

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll, conducted from October 7-15, 2026, indicates Ossoff has a clear lead over Collins [7][8]. Beyond polling, Ossoff's campaign demonstrated significant financial strength, raising $33 million between July and September 2026 [9]. The campaign concluded that period with $26 million cash on hand [9]. The race itself is described as both highly competitive and expensive [3].

## The Campaign Timeline

The general election for Senator Ossoff's second term is scheduled for November 3, 2026 [2]. The most recent polling data from the AJC was collected from October 7 to October 15, 2026, and published on October 21, 2026 [7][8]. Ossoff's campaign finance figures cover the third quarter of 2026, from July through September [9]. Amidst the re-election campaign, speculation about Ossoff potentially running for president in 2028 has persisted [11].

## What Has Been Said

Senator Ossoff has repeatedly denied any interest in a 2028 presidential campaign [12][13]. In an October 13, 2026, debate and subsequent interviews, Ossoff stated he has "zero interest" in running for president in 2028 [12][13]. He affirmed his intention to serve his full six-year Senate term if re-elected [13]. Republican challenger Mike Collins has attempted to use this speculation against Ossoff, implying national political aspirations [14]. However, Ossoff's public statements have consistently rejected a presidential bid for 2028 [13].

## What We Could Not Confirm

We could not confirm the specific details of Congressman Collins's campaign fundraising or cash-on-hand figures for the same period. We could not confirm if Senator Ossoff or Congressman Collins have scheduled further debates before the November 3 election.
